Tip 1 – The Need For Speed

Check the loading speed of your website, if it’s over 5 seconds then you need to get it sorted. There are a couple of websites that can help you with this. My favourite is the Google developer tool. https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

It will give you a score out of 100 and will even point out areas that need to be addressed. If the issue isn’t easily resolved, think about hiring someone from UpWork who can carry this out for you for a small fee.

Another site I use regularly that gives you the data on the speed of your site is http://www.webpagetest.org/

There are a few plugins that may help too, depending on what the problem is. For example you can get your images compressed and cleaned up using WP Smush –  https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/ or try a site like http://www.jpegmini.com/.

For cache related issues you can use a plugin called W3 Total Cache, another great plugin to help speed your site up. Do a search for it within the plugin section of the Dashboard or alternatively visit their website.

Tip 2 –  Stand out

We all know that creating quality content is loved by both Google and readers alike. Make sure you create high quality content that your readers will enjoy and benefit from. Consider using images and videos in your posts too. Not only will people enjoy the content, it will also help keep people on your site for longer and therefore reduce bounce rate.

Tip 3 – Links and Cross links

Make sure you link to additional posts on your site that share similar topics and keywords. Cross linking to your own material with anchor text when possible when preferred. Just make sure that it reads well, don’t sacrifice quality for anchor text.

Tip 4 – Quality Over Quantity Please

When link building, think quality over quantity. Google will look at you far more favourably if you have quality, related links as opposed to hundreds of links from random sites.

Tip 5 – External Links

While we are on the subject of link building, make sure you link to quality sites and posts outside of your site. Reciprocation is a great thing, link to their content and hopefully they will link back to some of yours.

Tip 6 – Bookmarks

Social bookmarking should not be over looked. Got new content to share, DiggIt, Reddit, d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. are just some of your first places to visit.

Tip 7 – Social Media

Remember that besides sharing your content with people you are already friends with, you can pay to have your posts reach a wider audience through paid advertising on Twitter and Facebook.

Tip 8 – Title Tags

Make sure you have you keyword focused title tags for every page on your website.

Tip 9 – Proper Keyword Research

Do your Keyword research before you start creating your content. Check Google’s Keyword tool for initial ideas and then expand upon them using a tool like SEMRush. I personally use this tool for keyword ideas and I can also check what my competitors rank for too.

Tip 10- Videos Rule

Not only do videos keep your visitors on your sites for longer ( Google likes this! ). According to Neil Patel from QuickSprout.com content with videos gain 50 times better organic search. Google is also moving towards a blend of videos and text based results on their results pages too.

It has been a focus for Google’s algorithm  for a while now to boost rankings for websites that are mobile friendly. No longer do people just sit at their PCs when they wish to serve the internet. We now have smartphones, tablets even watches that people use daily to browse your website. Make sure your site is ready!
